The Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Partnership (BSCP) are delighted to welcome our guest speaker Dr. h.c Jenny Molloy who is presenting three multi-agency workshops. It is recommended that staff attend all three sessions. 

  • The first workshop will focus on child Neglect, how to recognise neglect, understand neglect from the child’s point of view and how to assess and respond. (face to face)
  • The second workshop will be a continuation, focusing on Dr Molloy’s lived experiences of child sexual exploitation from childhood up until adult life. (virtual)
  • The third and final workshop will take a deeper dive into trauma, looking at what this looks like, smells and feels like through the lens of children. (face to face)

About Jenny:

Jenny is an author, trainer and motivational speaker who proudly identifies as a care leaver. She is the author Sunday Times best seller Hackney Child and Tainted Love written in her pen name Hope Daniels. Jenny spent most of her childhood in care and now with her own family is a Mother and Nana. Jenny was under the 'Care' of Hackney Social Services and was known as a "Hackney Child". Written under her real name her final book, Neglected, shares stories of love and hope within the care system, a message Jenny is passionate about. You can find out more about Jenny and her work on her social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram - Hackney Child

Workshop 1:

Jenny will take the attendees through what it feels like see the world through the lens of a child in care and how their experience is manifested through trauma responses.

 

A key aspect of successful outcomes for children in care is the narrative they develop about themselves and the important relationships they have with adults around them. Jenny will share how positive relationships helped her to overcome her adversities and enjoy a successful adult life.

 

Course Aim

  • To motivate and inspire attendees to be passionate in their work with child and young people, always keeping the lens of the child at the centre.
  • To develop critical and reflective practice when building relationships with young people.
  • To provide a foundation of practical skills for understanding and working with trauma.

Target audience

This course is aimed at all professionals who come into contact with young people, including managers who have responsibility for supervision, policy and decision-making.

 

Course Objectives

  1. To support attendees reflective capacity to ensure the lens of the child is privileged in their practice.
  2. Using group learning the course will consider how to identify trauma based behaviours as distinct from bad behaviour and begin the process of responding in a trauma informed way.
  3. To develop confidence in building trust-based relationship with young people, including young people who are communicating through trauma which may present as resistance.
  4. Introduce the concept of permanence as important to having an awareness of who we are and where we came from, and where we are going.
